Lucille Graham – Cook

Lucille Graham b. August 22, 1928 – d. March 29, 1990

She was born in Greenup, KY and raised in both KY and OH.  She was married for 38 years and had 5 children, 1 boy and 4 girls.  Her devotion to her family was second only to her devotion to God.  I think she was one of the strongest Christians I have ever known and wish I could be just like her.  I miss her everyday.

She gave her life to Christ in the early 50’s.  I’m not sure of the exact date but she was always a Christian that I can remember.  She bought her first Bible on weekly time payments of $1.00 a week from a traveling Bible salesman.  It was $39.00 and she said it took her forever to pay it off.  I still have that Bible today.

She joined Welch Free Will Baptist Church in the early 70’s and saw to it that I also attended, until I became a Christian.  She moved with them to Heritage Free Will Baptist Church.

Mom was a great cook and began cooking for the many senior citizens events Welch Free Will Baptist had.  Most people that knew her still remember her pies (the peanut butter pie especially.)  From there she went to work as a cook at the Heritage Christian School cafeteria.  She loved cooking for the kids and they loved her for it.  She worked there as long as she could.  The school eventually closed and she began to care for my dad, Billy Graham, until his death.

When asked how she could care for him when she herself was not well her response was “Every morning I think God for the day before and then ask Him to help me again on this day.  At night, I thank Him for the day and let Him know I’ll be back tomorrow.”  She was an inspiration to me and too man who knew her.
